"Over the past decade, one might say there has been of “renaissance” or “rebirth” in the world of underground rap. While that might be (and likely is) the case, critical components are often left by the wayside from the full length album - such as intros and interludes that weave songs together and complete stories, time for the DJ to catch wreck, not to mention overall diversity in sonics and textures - drums, anyone? Fortunately, this isn’t the case with “Legmatic,” the new LP from World Famous Beat Junkie, DJ Rhettmatic and NY by way of the DMV / Paris MC, Napoleon Da Legend.

Massive, swinging kicks and snares, triumphant rhymes and searing cuts from the leadoff single, “The King Walk”, set the stage for Legmatic. The second single, “Not Without A Heart” features NDL’s rhyme PNC Nejma Nefertiti and is only one of two MC features on Legmatic - the other being the aptly tited “Pressure” with NY MC Innocent? that sports a Organized Konfusion / Pharoah Monch cut that your favorite DJ / producer wishes they had thought of first.

Styles flip as the ever versatile NDL stretches out on the West Coast bounce of “2 Step 2 The Bank” and a lesson in turntable scientifics (big up Mr. Dibbs) pops up via Beat Junkie brethren D-Styles on “A Word From D-Styles.”

With spring in swing and summer neigh, “Legmatic” is the complete soundtrack of the season whether it’s in your headphones, car, or backyard BBQ.
