Introducing Straight Up! A co-led project from the minds of Andrew Kushnir and Reed Miller.
Straight Up! formed in the summer of 2020 where Kushnir and Miller explored standards and jazz classics under the shade of Prospect Park, Brooklyn. In the last five years Straight Up! has refined its group sound and explored eclectic compositions from the likes of Thelonious Monk, Ornette Coleman, Randy Weston, and Bud Powell.
Straight Up! draws inspiration from mid-century composers and improvisers while crafting an original approach to the guitar trio sound. Listeners draw comparisons to the timeless work of Barney Kessel, Ray Brown, and Shelley Manne’s Poll Winners trio. Straight Up! Brings listeners inside of the intimate world of New York City’s underground jazz scene.
