“Mystic Wilderness” is the second release from New York based, orchestral dungeon synth artist, The Ashen codex. While the previous full-length, “Echoes of Eminence”, was built around an original storyline, “Mystic Wilderness” was conjured from the aether in frantic writing sessions over the course of a week earlier this year. The Ashen Codex notes, “I had this idea to try a reductionist exercise and use only one VST to complete a song. So after about an hour, I had finished a song. Another two hours or so later, two more songs were complete. It felt like I had captured lightning in a bottle.” “Mystic Wilderness” is a stream of consciousness spell that evokes a deep-seated longing to escape to the natural world around us; a desire to leave the banalities of modern life behind and get lost in the woods.
The tape edition of “Mystic Wilderness” contains two additional tracks written with similar constraints in the same timeframe as the original five songs.
