That's not a lot of pieces my friend. So, if you enjoyed Rain Drinkers previous outings you'll most certainly want to get on to this one sharpish. 'Springtide' is made up of three arrangements all of which are seeped in melancholy and haunting atmospherics, balancing the use of ponderous piano and heartfelt strings with a host of additional ambient sounds and field recordings. The result is a captivating, almost magical thirty three minutes of mysterious, partially improvised neoclassicism with the emotional weight of Hood's 'Rustic Houses..' and the majesty of early Godspeed You Black Emperor coupled with rhythmic experimentation of Steve Reich."

"Another gorgeous release from Rain Drinkers, steeped in melancholy. This opens in a subtly dramatic style with neo-classical piano and strings and then drifts into mysterious ambience. Track 2 "Breach" is a delicately rhythmic and hypnotic exploration on nylon strings - very Steve Reich. Lastly "Hyacinth" is similarly hypnotic - a cascade of joyous synth over mournful brass."

"In slechts twee jaar tijd weet het uit Wisconsin afkomstige duo Rain Drinkers met vijf uitgaven duidelijk een geheel eigen muzikale handtekening neer te zetten. Met gebruik van diverse snaar- en zelfgebouwde instrumenten, piano, synthesizers en field recordings, construeren Joseph Taylor and Zavier Krall langgerekte sferische en weemoedige instrumentale composities die zeer goed te gebruiken zouden zijn als filmmuziek. Ook het nieuwe album ‘Springtide’ (cdr, Reverb Worship) is een combinatie van drones, ambient en invloeden uit klassieke kamermuziek, spaghetti westerns en oude traditionele Amerikaanse volksmuziek en duidelijk cinematografisch van aard. Weliswaar zijn de releases van Rain Drinkers niet speciaal voor films gecomponeerd, maar de muziek van dit duo groeit langzaam maar zeker naar het moment dat het als een Amerikaans antwoord gezien kan worden op de soundtracks die de Duitse band Popol Vuh maakte voor de cineast Werner Herzog. Alleen moet Rain Drinkers wel iets aan de belachelijk kleine oplages gaan doen. Ook van ‘Springtide’ werden slecht 100 stuks gedrukt en daarmee bereik je natuurlijk bijna niemand."
