Hey Days by Puzzle Thumbs

This album actually started life in mid 2016 when I wrote the lyrics for Hey Days Part II. It's not overtly political, but as the lyrics suggest, it is born out of my consternation at the events of that year and the sentiment I was seeing in much of the social and political discussion at that time; namely the idea of wishing to return to some hey day of the past. The desire to go back to a better and simpler time, a bygone era, the good ol' days, and in so-doing, sweeping all the negatives under the rug. I believe this kind of thinking is known as the "golden age fallacy". With the use of samples, the vinyl crackle and hinting at a variety of retro styles, album is clearly obsessed with the past, but crucially it is a fictional past. A past we have invented. As Martin Denny used to say of his work, this is fictional music.
