Funeral in the mountains
The scent of the pines
Fearless child I know is a daughter of mine
Since her sister’s death
I can’t quite understand
Why she troubles herself with a dead man’s hand

And it’s not right to question her common sense
Though there are those of hair, horn, and hoof
I know my daughter was born heaven sent
And she had the cunning of a wolf

Playing in the woodlands
She strays from the path
Although her granny warned her
She shrugs the warning with a laugh
She meets a stranger
Who is hairy on the inside
He was born feet-first
But she makes no attempt to run and hide

And I wonder why she was not surprised
When she found the stone baby had teardrops in its eyes
And why wasn’t she startled when the devil waved hi
She just stood there casually until he passed her by

“Little girls there seems to say
Never stop upon your way
Never trust a stranger friend
No one knows how it will end

As your pretty, so be wise
Wolves may lurk in every guise”
Heed this warning, don’t hesitate
Unless you want to suffer your sister’s fate

And I don’t ask why
She was not surprised
When the wolves surrounded her to rip out her insides
And why wasn’t she startled
When she saw their glaring eyes?
She just stood there casually until they passed her by
As if she knew she would never die
