Lyrics
Captive children, slaves in Egypt,
Israel waits for God’s redemption:
“Yahweh, turn your face upon us,
Come release us from our chains.”
Though the hardened hearts opposed Him,
They were only tools in His hand;
Though the sea did stand before them,
Yahweh’s children crossed dry land.
With His right hand, God did proffer
Freedom for the chosen nation;
Made them wise to heed His offer,
Brought them to His promised land.
“Sing to the Lord, for He has triumphed gloriously!
Our enemies defeated by His hand,
He’s led His people whom He has redeemed
In the steadfast love of the Lord!”
Even though God’s hand had saved them,
Lo! The Jews returned to slav’ry:
Carried far to foreign nations,
Made the slaves of foreign men.
Yet the Lord, by His volition,
Brought forth justice for His people;
Thus fulfilled the prophets’ vision:
Israel would return home!
Much like Israel were slaves to foreign men,
Everyone’s born a slave to sin.
By the one man sin enslaved us,
Helpless to resist its full sway;
O, but by the God-Man Jesus,
Grace has captivated me!
Free from further condemnation
Unto God we ever give thanks,
Grateful for emancipation
From the law of sin and death!
To a law that brings forth rest!
