Latin Landscapes by Pierpaolo Manca

LATIN LANDSCAPES was born from the desire to weave together jazz tradition with Latin American sounds, paying tribute to composers who have enriched the global musical landscape with a unique palette of colors.

The result is a sonic journey that crosses eras, languages, and geographies, reinterpreted with a contemporary sensibility and the distinctive touch of the quartet.

The journey opens with the refined elegance of “Son al Son” and “Como Fue’” by César Portillo de la Luz and Ernesto Duarte, then moves into the emotional poetry of “Yo Vengo a Ofrecer Mi Corazón” by Fito Páez.

Original compositions by Pierpaolo Manca, such as “Sabor Latino”, blend naturally into this universe, engaging in dialogue with timeless classics such as “Carinhoso” by Pixinguinha and “Inolvidable” by Julio Gutiérrez.

The album also explores the energetic realm of Latin jazz with “Mambo Inn” by Mario Bauzá, as well as the delicate beauty of “Contigo en la Distancia.”

The recording concludes with “Charlie’s Dream,” an original composition by Pierpaolo Manca dedicated to Charlie Haden, a central figure and profound source of inspiration for the entire project.

The piece stands as a tribute to the great bassist’s musical poetry—his expressive minimalism and his unique ability to convey emotion through silence, space, and melody.

He studied jazz guitar with guitarist Massimo Ferra and music theory and solfège at the Conservatory of Cagliari.
He has recorded three CDs under his own name — Chiaroscuro, Locanda Almayer, and A Single Moment of Life — all composed of original pieces.
His latest album, Latin Landscapes, was born from the desire to intertwine the jazz tradition with the sounds of Latin American composers.
