Sa Ximbomba from Amèlia by Persicopi Invertit
Rooted in tradition, “La Ximbomba” draws its melody from Mallorca’s popular folk repertoire, belonging to the centuries-old «glosa» genre — a form of improvised poetry sung across the Països Catalans (Catalonia, Valencia, the Balearic Islands, and other Catalan-speaking regions). Traditionally performed at «Festes Majors» (main town festivals) and community gatherings, since the 14th century, «glosa» continues to be a living art form today.
With “La Ximbomba”, Periscopi Invertit breathe new life into this heritage. The band reimagines the original folk song with a fresh arrangement: the traditional lyrics remain, but the improvised verses are replaced with improvised instrumental solos. Listeners will recognise the Mediterranean roots of the melody, now intertwined with jazz-funk grooves and modern harmonies.
