Amèlia from Amèlia by Persicopi Invertit

The song is Mireia’s first exploration of blending contemporary music with Catalan traditional melodies. She composed an original main theme and added a “B section” based on the melody of the first stanza of the 14th-century Catalan ballad “El testament d’Amèlia», which is still nowadays an alive popular traditional tune within Països Catalans (regions where Catalan language is spoken like Catalonia, Mallorca and Valencia).
«El testament d’Amèlia» it is a ballad that explains the story of a mother that poison’s her daughter because of her love affairs with her daughter’s fiancé....while Periscopi Invertit only use a fragment of the ballad, the arrangement evokes its haunting emotional tension through layered harmonies and contrasting sections, providing a modern soundscape to a centuries-old melody.

Periscopi Invertit (Reversed Periscope) mix Catalan folk melodies with North African rhythms and jazzy vibes and explores how old folk melodies can fuse with funk/latin/jazz arrangements and keep their connection with nowadays Mediterranean sounds and grooves.

The music is as well inspired by the legacy of “Ona Laietana” Barcelona's underground music bands from the 70's
