The day I got to Butte is still in some dispute

I found a place by the Berkley Pit
Cause I just liked the thought of it
A scar you can see from the sky

This festering wound in the ground
Just outside the Butte city line

Running felt like freedom or a town nearby
But you miss your water when your well runs dry
And a poisoned well is as good as dry
