Samonios (2017) by Paddy de Brún
The album cover shows Ireland on the palm of my hand with the worryingly receding Gaeltachtai (Irish Gaelic speaking areas) in green. Samonios is the Gaulish word for Samhain (which means November in Irish), also known as the "Celtic Halloween". The two songs "Samonios mat" and "Giamonios anmat", in a mix of Gaelic and Gaulish, represent an attempt to connect the modern Samhain tradition to its Gaulish roots. The song "Wir Sind d-Avantgarde (part 1 and 2)" features my bandmate Gabriel Starkhaus on a traditional birbynė (a folk aerophone bought from a maker in the depth of the forsaken Lithuanian countryside), with which we explore the limits of musicality.. All right, all right, it's kind of a quarter tone out of tune or something (LoL)!
The song "Lu turmiento inda lu cori" is in Salentino, a dialect from Apulia (Southern Italy).
The last track, GBH (Geisterbahnhoff), is supposed to be a ghost track, so it starts after a few seconds.. no rush huh!?
