Universite by 119ONYX

This project is the representation of my life without concept. Originally created under a different concept and idea entirely, I shed it for political reasons and was left to create the second half in accordance with my everyday experiences, each one different than the last and bound by no common idea. Thus the title "Universite" was born, as the university setting was the only commonality those experiences shared. I sourced inspiration from the student radicals immortalized in Godard's La Chinoise and Le Gai Savoir, for the parallels between them, myself, and the other students of the current age have only become more numerous with the rise of Palestinian solidarity encampments on college campuses. The lack of a concept in the creation of the music allowed for it to be more representative of myself rather than what feels like a character. However, the loose university overlay exists to highlight the aforementioned similarities while challenging like minds to consider a deviation from this course, for the radicalism of May 68 was destroyed and weaponized by the fascist West in the years following. It is in a sense a testament to their progression and a warning intended to encourage an innovative form of revolution derived (not copied) from it, as to promote a greater community and prevent its collapse during the inevitable fascist crackdown which is to come. I also note that Godard's radicalism and the majority of french revolutionaries at the time were largely performative and self serving, but wish to extract the artistic beauty of that which was performative and infuse it with that which is tangible during the current age in accordance with the inspiration over reproduction standpoint taken above.
