Sans Visage by 119ONYX

Evocative of the lack of identity I feel as both an artist and an individual at this point, my first cohesive work in the form of Sans Visage is a dark, uncomfortable, and violent sort of pocket dimension within my own consciousness. However, at its core is woe and a sort of loss of self at the hands of a world that exists to remind you of your own insignificance. Neither a societal rebuke nor a venture into self-pity, Sans Visage is an outlet through which I funnel the emotions and desires I feel as a result of my surroundings (both physical and otherwise), in a fashion I wouldn’t dare replicate in a public setting. French for “without a face”, Sans Visage represents both my lack of identity, along with my lack of recognition in many aspects of life. It is also based upon the French horror film Les Yeux Sans Visage, in the sense that Christiane had nobody to empathize with her or regard her as having her own identity beyond (or even at) face value. This EP is a journal of sorts, detailing both my thoughts, and those I believe we would share if we met, for she was forced to endure her own ideas without respite, along with the sinking feeling of knowing what was to come.
