Tom Brosseau is a songwriter, a keen listener and observer of the American prairie, the land and its people, the real and mythical. Their sayings, their dreams — clung to or abandoned, dashed or come to pass — their heeding to a reliance on the land. The real and mythical of the prairie runs through songs of Brosseau’s from his first album, What I Mean To Say Is Goodbye, to this, his 17th released album, simply and aptly titled, The Prairie. His grandmother Lillian Uglem taught him the acoustic guitar while he was in grade school. He has exchanged songs and poetry with many talented folks, including Susan Orlean, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Patrick Marber, Bonnie Raitt and the late Sam Hinton.
