Old Sam... I remember Old Sam...
Old Sam, he was a bulldog,
but he sure did have his dreams...
laying out, by the fishpond, all day long,
he'd imagine the most amazing bulldog things
like a world without fleas, a yard full of trees,
or a cat that didn't always get to land on its feet,
(as he fondly liked to think... "splat cat").
Old Sam... I remember Old Sam...
He'd spend his lazy, hazy, crazy bulldog days
just a baskin' in the sun,
always thinkin' up ways to catch cats a little faster,
or slip his master's leash to get his own business done.
He'd spend an hour sniffin' flowers,
then go dig up some old bones
until one day while layin'
half in & half out of his cozy bulldog home...
Old Sam... he had a bulldog epiphany.
Old Sam, he was just a snoozin',
the way bulldogs are inclined to do,
when he felt something tickle him on the nose,
so he snorted and shook away the drool.
Low and behold, a butterfly had been dancing on his snout.
So, he barked, as bulldogs are inclined to do
and tried to catch it in his mouth...
and as that butterfly fluttered by, goodbye,
Old Sam, he started thinkin', started thinkin' about...
What if bulldogs were like butterflies
and had the daintiest pair of wings?
Chasing cars wouldn't be a challenge anymore.
Chasing jet planes, now that's exciting!
Imagine the look in the mailman's eye
and wouldn't that dog catcher be surprised!
A walk on a leash would be like flying a kite...
if bulldogs had dainty wings, like butterflies.
Old Sam... I remember Old Sam.
That Old Sam sure did have his dreams...
