Lyrics
I couldn’t grasp the sheer enormity,
Of meeting you in person that first time,
I’m not sure I know too much of anything,
Much less how I’ll be parenting,
I hope you’ll show me how.
O, my child, now you have arrived,
Everything I do, will be for love of you,
And the sleep I’m going to lose is worth its weight in gold,
and you’re not very old.
There’s such joy to see you flourishing,
And sorrow when you learn by painful loss,
You’re growing to be all you’re meant to be,
And so much more than mini-me,
An independent soul.
O, my child, soon you will inherit,
All I have received, plus the lies that I believed,
And the trust I have in you will be the thing I add,
your smiles will make me glad.
Life winds as a thread in tapestry,
It dances as a seed borne on the breeze,
Fate floats as a leaf on a stream of time,
As currents play and intertwine,
And when it’s run its course.
O my child, soon you’ll sort through heirlooms,
All I’d put away, against a rainy day,
And the doubts I had about my life will be no more;
but my love for you, it will endure.
