We’ve never kept score,
Of the drinks that we’re owed,
And you’ve never been slow
To keep me on the straight road.
And no matter the journey,
And wherever it ends,
There is you and there’s me,
And we’re the best of friends.

The sun in the sky
Is the light of our days.
When the evenings draw in,
There is no finer place
Than a pint and a table,
And the warmth that it lends.
There is you and there’s me,
And we’re the best of friends.

Different lives have shaped our discourse,
Different histories and trials,
But there’s decades of shared memories,
Inside jokes and wicked smiles.

I may be a poet,
Or I may have a song,
And I’ll try to express
How you have helped me along,
We are mutually inclusive,
Both the means and the end,
There is you and there’s me,
And we’re the best of friends.
