Wasabi Quartet - ZeroZen
Guitarist Walter Pignotti releases the album ZeroZen, recorded for Notami Jazz, in collaboration with Emanuele Evangelista (piano), Gianludovico Carmenati (double bass), and Michele Sperandio (drums). In a context where contamination becomes common language, the Wasabi quartet combines elements typical of European melody with the rhythmic force of progressive rock and the power of improvisation, alongside a taste for dynamics and developments characteristic of the classical music tradition. The original material they propose lends itself to this game of references, which has its roots mainly in the 1970s. ZeroZen, Walter Pignotti's latest recording project, showcases and highlights the guitarist's depth as a composer and improviser. Rather than falling back on predictable and preconceived formulas, he offers a very personal musical vision. The compelling and surprising variety of melodies, compositions, and improvisations keeps the listener completely engaged from start to finish.
