A musical project born from an idea by Michele Fattori, who found his ideal partner in Marcello Sebastiani. Michele Fattori is an internationally renowned visual artist who has been working for years on themes of analytical philosophy and pragmatism, having woven a poetics based on these themes into his painting for many years. The project combines standards with original pieces that are composed on the spot, without any outline or written notes. The approach is reminiscent of free jazz, but seeks to go beyond this vision precisely because of the absence of any reference point other than the first notes played by the person who starts the piece. Therefore, it is not just a matter of free improvisation on a more or less structured theme, but a totally instantaneous composition. The result is a work that can be considered a musical elaboration of the philosophical speculations of W. Van Orman Quine, hence the title Gavagai, which aims to highlight the problem of translation, in this case into music, and that of the interpretative execution of the compositional object. A journey towards full expressive freedom, ranging from a traditional style with hints of innovation in the standards, to suites and unpublished pieces that arise from the encounter of two, let's call them: texts; two testologies, two unique authors but in communication with each other, united in music.
