Apastron by Time Police
NOREMIXES releases its first music of 2018 much like it started, with an anonymous release.
Time Police kicks off Apastron with “ComL 3/2”; a workout of an Oberheim SEM. Musically it sits alongside the mathematical, downbeat shifting production of Autechre or even the recent output from labelmate, William Fields. It’s followed by the ambient drones of “Sun Gang”, entirely modular, controlled and deliberate. “Habit Zero” returns to the frenetic, impossible to catch the downbeat percussion of “ComL 3/2”. This time however, Time Police employs an ambient bed of gurgling synthesizers that competes for the listener’s attention.
“Aging Hypersleep Distortion” is the most tonal of the productions; bips and pings of playful monophonic synths are on display, before “Teenmp3” provides a haunting part two to “ComL 3/2”. The EP concludes with “Nutrient Bath”, a fitting title for the release’s most complex and textural work. While most of the tracks on Apastron rely on only a few synth or drum machine voices, “Nutrient Bath” provides a rich and dense conclusion.
