Aconitum Napellus by Wilted Perch

Aconitum Napellus is named after monkshood, a highly toxic plant historically used in hunting, warfare, and execution, as well as in tightly controlled medical and homeopathic contexts. Aconite is associated with sudden onset rather than gradual decline, with shock, fear, and rapid changes in the body that leave little time for adjustment. In folklore and magical practice, it is often treated as a plant of thresholds, used where protection, danger, and intent overlap. In Greek myth, aconite is said to have sprung from the saliva of Cerberus when he was dragged from the underworld, reinforcing the plant’s association with thresholds, death, and containment... These associations form the conceptual basis of the album, which focuses on exposure, panic, and the moment when harm becomes unavoidable.

The album was recorded in a single location in an isolated forest cabin in Sweden, with each track developed through broken, continuous sessions rather than planned compositions, during a period of prolonged illness and sustained inner turmoil. Aconitum Napellus continues the broader themes of Wilted Perch and forms the second entry in an ongoing poisonous plant trilogy, following 2021’s La Oscuridad Que No Puedo Soportar.

Wilted Perch is a dark ambient/post-industrial project that started in 2018 in Pula, Croatia, but has never been tied to one place. It has developed over time and across different environments, which shows up in the sound. It is unstable, slow, and often uncomfortable.

The music focuses on texture, density, and atmosphere. Long drones, distorted tones, noise, and degraded electronics are used to create unease. A recurring focus is grief, physical decline, and the way illness or deterioration alters perception and time. Some pieces are minimal and sustained, others are harsher and more abrasive, but everything is meant to feel immersive.
