i got out of bed and my bag was packed
i was ready to leave last night
when every word spoken's like a heart attack
you stop wanting to put up a fight

a cactus has thorns for a reason*
gotta keep those desert critters at bay
collect the resources you're needin
and make it through another day

lit a quick pack in the back of my truck
just couldn't put the key in all the way
my reds ran out like a red sea parting
up in smoke now moses lead me astray

a body's got a head for a reason
gotta keep the heart from beatin' too fast
recognize the traffic beeping
turn the ignition and get out of the past

a subtle accusation of treason
shale cracked good for the gas
what can i say other than "hey i'm leavin
thanks for nothing i had such a blast"

repeating words 'til they lose their meaning
suffering and spending cash
doing dumb shit to get over it
praying that it doesn't last
