Wow, Lawrence Welk presents George Cates’ Polynesian Percussion, the reverse of the sleeve reports as the radio staple unleashes what’s billed as “Great Hawaiian melodies, a Latin beat, perfect for dancing, the ultimate in stereo and hi-fi percussion.” And, the celebrated arranger doesn’t disappoint. Not as wild and wacky as his scoring on the bedevilled movie Hellzapoppin’, but pretty sweet nonetheless. He went on to work on Doris Day and Bing Crosby films but never really broke out of the shadow of Lawrence.
