Calling by Sangeeta, Turbotito, Ragz

Naya Beat label heads Turbotito & Ragz transform the late legendary British Asian vocalist Sangeeta’s ‘Calling’ into a soaring 90s inspired balearic house anthem. This is the first single from Naya Beat’s feverishly anticipated ‘Naya Beat Volume 2’ uncovering gems from the late 80s and early 90s South Asian dance and electronic music scene.

Sangeeta burst onto the scene in 1991 with her album ‘Flower In The Wind’. Produced and arranged by the pioneering Kuljit Bhamra, the album broke all conventions in the world of bhangra – a female-led album that was sung in Hindi instead of bhangra’s traditional language of Punjabi. The album set sales records in the UK, reaching the number one position in both the Bhangra and Hindi charts and netting Sangeeta a Gold Disc. Released as an EP in 1993 to relative obscurity, 'Calling' is a hauntingly beautiful yet short track that leaves you wanting more. Founding Poolside member and daytime disco pioneer Turbotito and DJ and crate digger Ragz (both Naya Beat label cofounders) transform Sangeeta’s original vocal take into a soaring 90s inspired five minute balearic house anthem. Atmospheric synths provide the backdrop for Sangeeta’s swirling angelic vocals with big house chords providing the ecstatic build up to a blissful singalong chorus. Turbotito & Ragz’ remix is as much a tribute to the magical era of 90s balearic house as it is a dedication to Sangeeta, who passed away earlier this year after a long battle with cancer.
