Natural Birth by Natural Birth

Nancy Reagan railed against our drugs. Tipper Gore and the PMRC censored our music. In the age of AIDS, our teachers warned that sex would kill us. Sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll defined our parents’ youth yet Gen X kids growing up in the ‘80s encountered an unholy trinity of parental preaching.

Xer lived with the limitations imposed by the boomers but he’d also heard stories of what the boomers did, and they left him feeling simultaneously enthralled and cheated.

Each track on 'Natural Birth' explores a classic-rock legend: a rock star riding his motorcycle through a hotel, another inserting cocaine up the ass because her nose no longer worked.

According to the artist, Xer: "These stories were related to me through friends who also loved music. Were they exaggerated or made up, or true? Whether repulsive or delightful or both, they furthered the mystique of a generation that did whatever they wanted, whenever."

Home from college in 1988 and separated from friends, Xer had time to craft a response. Organically following a mood, concept or idea, each day's objective was not to craft traditional song structures but to capture a specific feeling: the joy of having time to explore, the mistrust and confusion born of a generation dismissed, and curiosity about freedoms his parents' generation enjoyed.

Natural Birth is the result of an intentionally imperfect process. Eight short tracks culled from a collection of more than fifty, the record distills the frustrations of a generation into one cohesive retort.
