Darkness covers the earth
thick darkness is over the peoples

As a pregnant woman about to give birth
writhes and cries out in her pain,
so are we in your presence, Lord.

We are with child, we writhe in labor,
but we give birth only to wind.

We have not brought salvation to the earth,
Nor have the people of this world come to life

And surely the day is coming; it will burn like a furnace.
And not a root nor a branch will be left to them.

But your dead will live, Lord;
their bodies will rise—
Those who dwell in the dust
Will wake up and shout for joy—
the earth will give birth to her dead.

the Lord will rise upon you
and his glory will appears over you.
nations shall come to your light,
and kings to the brightness of your rising.

So arise, shine, for your light has come,
