"The first to arrive were the explorers.

Next were the industrialists and missionaries: Prospectors and
proscriptors; earth and air; matter and spirit; body and soul.

The holy men, with their constrictive, conflicting beliefs, were quick to assure us that it was “the Others” who were in error. Unlike the missionaries, the capitalists were all united under a single banner, each in service to a common God which united all the others.

The “Civilisation” brought with them wonders and technologies the likes of which we had scarcely imagined possible (or even necessary). We taught them our language and shared our knowledge while they, in turn, studied our ways with a cold, reptilian detachment.

Then they arrived in greater and greater numbers, swarms of vehicles arriving by air. Construction teams, escorted by armed emissaries, began erecting vast monuments in celebration of their wealth and in glory to their many gods. This continued until our entire world was made unrecognisable, transformed into a foreign landscape.

And they never left.

They treated us like pests.

And sectioned us off.

And they called us aliens."
