EVERYTHING BURNS! is a violent conversation. The era under which this work meets the world, has been flagged in history as a melange of misinformation, misdirected aggression, and mortal tension. From the conception of this album, in 2022, the Earth has been set ablaze time and time again. Our collective body has borne witness to war, starvation, new and strange disease, digital psychoses, political assassinations (attempted and successful), infrastructural destabilization worldwide, and an ongoing negotiation of the ethical binding which keeps us, the inheritors of this mess, in conflict with one another over what could be limitless. EVERYTHING BURNS! is not here to convince you to change your registered voter party, or to become an unmanageable militia at the gates of the United Nations. It's here to document the linguistic and conceptual evolution of a life worth living, when all external forces would suggest that life is hardly worth anything at all. This work embraces modalities of noise, contemporary sonic recipes and existential gas valves clicking and scraping against one another...the unyielding metronome of a stove top in an undersized apartment and an increasingly volatile gas leak. The technology at our fingertips, on the precipice of quantum knowledge, is reinforcing a bygone conclusion: The deeper we go into our individualistic power fantasies, the further we stray from the sustainable Earth that bore the fruits we gnaw at gluttonously. To go so far to develop an intelligence believed to be higher than our own, only for that intelligence to tell us how foolish we are for making it. EVERYTHING BURNS! is the collision of modern dialects and perennial practices: a dying star flaring its veins and arteries, cataclysmic quips and eruptions of slaughter slapboxing against a deafening silence. The silence that tells us to duck our heads, do our work, be thankful for the scraps and shut up. We can't afford to do that anymore. We can't survive doing that. So this album is a testament, to a period of time in which we've all grieved differently, grown differently, reformatted our ways of engaging the world, and managed to stay above water. We've survived uncertainties others couldn't, made mistakes others will never get the chance to make, watched sunrises others will miss for the rest of time. So let's celebrate it all. Our wounds, our losses, our salted victories, our sweetest nothings, our greatest ambitions, our weakest comrades. Let's celebrate that we're even here at all. Let's remember this time as one where we all chose to shed our soft apathies, bleed onto our media and invoke life with every choice of where we went and whom we went with. I ask you to forge ahead on your path, wherever it may take you. And by the strength of us all, maybe we'll survive another paradigm shift we can write music about. Who knows?
