Love Songs by Sisyphe

In mid-January of 2020, the outbreak of the coronavirus was officially reported in Wuhan. Within weeks, the entire country of China would go into a prolonged lockdown. The problem being, I was also in China in January of 2020, vacationing in Shanghai. The good news is that I also permanently reside in Beijing. The bad news is, immediately upon getting back from vacation, I would then be in self-quarantine for two weeks and lockdown for three and a half months.

I was itching to get back out, play bar gigs, and finish the LP I had been working on with my band H Flat Minor. I couldn't. So, I gradually built a makeshift studio with consumer-grade equipment and went to town, trying to pour my energy/anxiety into something, anything, that I could sink hours into. I wrote new songs, I recorded some old ones, I played around with arranging in ways I've never even attempted before. The result is undoubtedly lo-fi and unpolished, but it's an expression of where I was, physically and emotionally, at the time. In a sense, that's all I know how to do when it comes to music.
