Still Life by Música d’Outrora
"Still Life: Early Baroque Fantasy" is the debut recording of Música d’Outrora, directed by Pablo Devigo and released by Deux-Elles Records. The album explores the experimental and theatrical spirit of early 17th-century Italy through works by Dario Castello, Ignazio Albertini, Gregorio Strozzi, and others.
At its heart lies the stylus phantasticus: a style of freedom, sudden contrasts, and radical affective transformations. Like a Baroque bodegón (still life painting), the music creates vivid microcosms of expression — moments that are both static and alive.
Recorded at St. Alban’s, Birmingham, the album includes world premiere recordings and offers a fresh perspective on forgotten voices of the Baroque, performed with the immediacy, theatricality, and improvisatory energy that defined the period.
