Watery Light by Motohiro Nakashima

'Paper Piano' is a boutique label out of Stockport in Greater Manchester who once released a mini-CD on a concrete plinth and hugely collectible and totally unique.

This 'Paper Piano Press' project is a series of hand sewn books and mini-CDs inspired by childhood memories as in the poem "I Remember, I Remember" by Thomas Hood. Bands involved include The Declining Winter, Birds Humming the Beat and Dollboy so far.

I also tried another approach thinking about childhood. I think 'Childhood' and 'heart scars' are deeply connected, and they are rarely talked about in a general, nostalgic childhood. The scars are the "lost pieces" that the mind has to keep searching for for the rest of its life. Everyone has more or less "heart scars" from their "childhood," some of which are intentional and some of which are inflicted without any intention to hurt.

'Faint and nostalgic memories' and 'pieces lost due to the scars' are mixed together like a marbling, and that is what "childhood" is I think. The ratio of these two paints changes depending on the time period, the environment in which we were born, the place where we spend our time, and the people we meet, but they are delicately mixed in our minds, and people are working to find the pieces they have lost.

With these ideas in mind, I traveled to the deepest, blurred landscapes of my memory and created a piece of music.

The Japanese ambient folk guitarist, Motohiro Nakashima, explore the music of a scenery in memories. The sounds is calm like The Seto Inland Sea where he grew, and sometimes it has a gloomy expression like a sun setting on the sea. The finger-picking-style guitar plays warm minimalism like a wave, and the melody that reminds people's memories are gentle and friendly.
