Mother Anxiety is the work of Pacific Northwest multi-instrumentalist and author Ben Serna-Grey. The track of the same name was a musical simulation of a panic attack and opened a gateway for the artist to connect with music in newer, more personal ways. Frustrated and isolated from the classical world he’d previously dedicated his life to, he sought out new methods of expression, gravitating toward electronic forms and jazz and funk bass. He began folding in experience from his classical oboe training along with drone, glitch, IDM, folk, and he continues to add sounds as his arsenal of skills grows. Mother Anxiety doesn’t prescribe to hardline genre definitions, seeking instead to find artistic cohesion through a wide range of juxtaposition.

Mother Anxiety is a solo electronic project by author and musician Ben Serna-Grey.

Experimental and intensely personal in form and intent, Mother Anxiety was birthed in an attempt to connect with music in new ways after Ben found himself abandoned and trapped in a liminal space when it came to the classical music world he had dedicated his life to.
