Khôra by Jerry Gordon

This set of recordings came about from experiments with layering, playing tenor saxophone parallel with other layers. Initially, what became Choral Clouds was a track to be used for collaborating with my friend and sitar player Ritesh Maharjan in Kathmandu. Thus, it might have a second life. The same is true for Anagnorisis of a Non-Being.

After making them for Ritesh, I felt like they already had somethings to say on their own.

The title Khôra was found while looking at etymological links to "choral." While vaguely related, I learned that Khôra has a rather rich history in philosophical thought. Initially it was described as a formless interval, or a space without a place, a location outside the proper city. So, that seemed like an interesting filter through which to consider these sounds that have occurred and might be occurring again in an altered form.
