All these recordings' layers were made in October 2021, inspired by the BIRBS of Katie Pfunnell--her chickens pictured in the cover image.

The drum tracks were mostly recorded first, and the 1/2 clarinet, garden hose and sax layers came after.

The BIRBS 1, 2 & 3 interludes are a second layer of 1/2 clarinet played in response to a first. I divided that layered recording into the three parts you will hear.

The two initial layers of BIRBS' tracks were separated and reworked in the last track--Mating Dance--over a drum layer. Mating Dance was made by live editing the first and second BIRBS layers, by shifting their positions, volume and on/off-ness while the drum layer played.

The opening track--Mocking BIRBS--is a 1/2 clarinet layer improvised over a drum layer, but the technique of playing the 1/2 clarinet in that way came from playing the BIRBS interlude layers.

Track 05--Mortimer's Dream is named after a chicken.
