When you would spread your salt in the winter
the garden would suffer in the spring
Well I came up from that soil wishing that I
had sprouted a little farther from the tree.

You know I kept everything that you gave me.
I'm still carrying it all along with me -
mostly locked up in a box but I let some
poison my own little saplings.

And now for sixty-one miles at four-thirty in the morning,
all I can do is think of every mistake I've ever made,
and I just want to start over.
