Distanz by Stefan Gubatz

A little more than ten years ago, I was travelling abroad quite a lot with another band project and accordingly spent a lot of time in the waiting area of airports, where time and space sometimes seemed to dissolve. You could neither get in nor out, sometimes you had to spend many hours there and there was a very special atmosphere.

One day in winter I was sitting in the waiting area again, while it was freezing cold outside, it was snowing intensely, it was foggy - and I had the urgent need to open my laptop and turn the mood into music. That afternoon, I created the first track of a concept that aimed to work only on it while sitting in the waiting area of an airport.

When the gate opened and we were escorted to the plane, it was also a perfect moment to take a picture. This photo would eventually become the cover of the Album.

After about a year, I finished working on the project, creating a total of eight long, detached pieces that I compiled on the album "Distanz".

It was released in 2012 as the only album on the Traum Schallplatten sub-label "Telrae", which Riley Reinhold, Emanuel Geller and Axel Erbstößer of Salz and I founded at the time. Unfortunately, the album was denied a vinyl release until today, but I had an edition of 100 CDs produced, which are completely sold out today.

Now, 12 years later, "Distanz" is being re-released on my own imprint "Mono Elements". It contains the eight pieces in full length as well as with correct track titles and in the right order. On the previous releases, the tracks merged into each other and were sometimes wrongly named and sorted.

Still, we will all have to wait an indefinite amount of time for a vinyl edition, but it is one of my big goals in life to release a deluxe vinyl edition of the album one day. Let's stay curious about when that will be.

This album is probably the most important piece of my musical work. I am exceptionally proud of it and often ask myself when listening to it how I produced it in the first place. I am very happy to be able to present it to you now in the best possible quality and in the way I imagined it. I hope you enjoy it.
