ROOT the Film Soundtrack (2018) :: This album was recorded by DJ Icewater with live audiences in Denver, Colorado, March 2016. The music then inspired the creation of ROOT the film.
ROOT the Film was imagined by Molina Speaks, and captured by cinematographer Kimberly Ming between Fall 2016 and Fall 2017. The film is directed by Molina, who narrates the dreamscapes through rap, poetry, song, and prose. 2018 ROOT the Film screenings include: McNichols Civic Center Building (Denver, CO), Su Teatro Center for Cultural and Performing Arts (Denver, CO), Denver Art Museum (Denver, CO), Trinidad Poetry Festival (Trinidad, CO), The Guild Cinema (Albuquerque, NM), Colorado College (Colorado Springs, CO), Fort Lewis College (Durango, CO), and the Alamo Drafthouse in Denver, CO.
ROOT the Film is the recipient of the Premio Ometeotl Award for New Media (XicanIndie Film Fest XX), as well as awards from Denver's Imagine 2020 Fund and Colorado Creative Industries.
ROOT the Album appears on vinyl. This work is an Instruction, dedicated to the future beings. We create the culture. - Molina Speaks
