Greta by Miriam Maaravi

I am releasing this song earlier than scheduled in light of recent events involving Greta Thunberg and her fellow activists. The song itself is about our encroaching environmental crisis, but it is also about reflecting on the damage that we are doing to ourselves, to each other, and to our planet. I watched a very moving piece with John Green recently where he talks about how he has to remind himself that hope is the correct response to the human condition and that we have the power as human beings to come together and collaborate to make real and lasting change. This is something that I am also trying to remember. I think some of you will see my support of Greta as support of Palestine and some of you will have mixed emotions about this. I want to say that this is long past being about political affiliations. I am not here to offer clever solutions to infinitely complex geopolitical problems. I am here to appeal to your humanity. This is not a war, this is a genocide. Never again means never again for everyone. The Israeli government has and is breaking countless international laws. You have to believe me when I say I understand the deep and undeniable fear and trauma sustained by all of us who carry a Jewish identity, but Zionism is a false prophet. It is exclusionary and unsustainable. There are other ways forward that protect Jewish lives without the subjugation of others. We must continue to push for an end to the violence, an end to the blockade, and an unconditional release of all hostages. The organization Jewish Voice for Peace said it beautifully “We choose a future where everyone, including Palestinians and Jewish Israelis, can live their lives freely in vibrant, safe, equitable communities, with basic human needs fulfilled.” I will link to the entire article as I think it is very worth the read. I will also provide links to aid organizations below. All proceeds from this song will go to Save the Children to provide food and medical supplies to children in Gaza.
