Gong Bangin' by Mike Matteson
Mike Matteson wasted no time delivering Gong Bangin’, which trails his first album, Teenage Man, by just two weeks. Just like the first album, Gong Bangin’ was entirely written and performed by Mike Matteson himself. However, the similarities end there. Where Teenage Man is meticulous, Gong Bangin’ is minimalistic. With all bullshit stripped away, the only thing left is pure, unrestrained rock and roll saturated with attitude, innocence, lust, and fucked-up-ness. And it is loud as hell.
It is true that there is nothing innovative here, but at least it’s not “pop punk."
