State by Mike Dickson
I am sure there must be someone in charge, somewhere. Someone to get us out of this mess we are in. Someone somewhere must be there to fix the water and turn the lights back on.
The bombs stopped days ago now. Where are the men who said they would come to fix the road outside? What's keeping them? What can be delaying them? There is no one else out there so I don't see why they aren't here.
The TV is dead, but I have a radio and batteries, but even that seems to be nothing but static mostly. I can hear foreign voices on the airwaves speaking words I don't understand, but every so often they say something about this place, or so it sounds. They are so faint. None of them play music.
I am sure that they will provide for us. That's why we voted for them in the last election. They'll come to fix stuff. They won't leave us alone in the dark. Someone must come soon. The state will provide.
