as a nesting doll
would I lose my shell
every couple years
would there one day be
a bean-sized girl
at the center of me

a little less
in size and space

Would the bean-sized soul

but so small like it took
a single stroke
of a painter's brush
to indicate a mouth or a rosy cheek
at the center of me
