Mbira Talks by Moyo Rainos Mutamba

This album is the accompanying music for the feature film Mbira Talks (94 mins) which follows musician and storyteller Moyo Rainos Mutamba as he journeys back to Zimbabwe from Toronto to reclaim the sacred instrument Mbira used for centuries to invoke ancestors and banned under colonial rule. Our goal was to record Mbira on its own, without accompanying percussion, to provide a stripped down version of traditional songs as a balm for the soul and humankind. All proceeds from the sale of the music go to Ubuntu Learning Village in Gutu, Zimbabwe which promotes education with a focus on indigenous arts and culture.

Moyo Rainos Mutamba is a musician, storyteller, lecturer, mediator, consultant and community builder who splits his time between Toronto, Canada and Zimbabwe. He is founder of Ubuntu Learning Village which supports education based on indigenous knowledge systems. This album evolved from Moyo's involvement in the feature documentary film, Mbira Talks.
