Cohesion by Mattia Olgiati

A year after making "Landscape", here I am with my second album "Cohesion". On this album I wanted to experiment with a mix of genres (ambient and IDM) with a little touch of classical music. If my previous album was to help people relax during the pandemic, Cohesion is a message of hope to return to everyday life.

"Cohesion" wants to be a cohesion between different musical genres: you will listen to ambient interspersed with pressing rhythms, unstable rhythms and different audio synthesis techniques. We will move from live coding to electroacoustic music and finally also to a remix of classical music. Different music coexist on the same album and I hope people can do the same.

I thank everyone who supported me this year in the creation of this album, who supported me by appreciating my last album "Landscape" and who will continue to do so with future works.

TRACKS

1- Fox On A Rock

The best example of cohesion in the world: nature. A melody accompanied by a pressing rhythm that evolves over time, like a fox jumping on the rocks.

2- Rust And Sand

Natural and artificial. One created by nature, the other by man. In this track made exclusively with percussion, the material crumbles under the passage of time.

3- Cloudy Sunset

The simplest things are the ones that make us appreciate the world the most.

4- Light Through The Branches

Light always passes through the branches, even on the most cloudy days, however much the wind may blow.

5- Moldy Walls

Very often in abandoned buildings mold grows on the walls. If this is uncomfortable, in reality it is yet another coexistence between what is natural and what is artificial. The track is made entirely in FM synthesis.

6- Azimuth

Azimuth is an arabic word that can be translated as "directions". This track is in the middle of the album, like the azimuth on the horizon.

7- In/Organic

The perfect world of calculations together with the imperfect and beautiful world of nature. In this track the tempo is irregular, in contrast to the percussion.

8- edulerP

edulerP is the reverse of Prelude. The title reflects the idea behind the track: taking prelude from my last album, it has been reversed and edited via FFT synthesis. A tribute to my last album and to electroacoustic music (where I come from).

9- CPU Overclock

It is when the limits are exceeded that the best things can be done.

10- Cohesion

It is very often thought that classical music is not suitable for use in other genres. The melody is taken directly from Bach's fourth cello suite, precisely from the saraband. What better way to get a message of cohesion?
