"Apokalypsis" was the first piece I wrote after buying my first professional synthesizer, a Roland XP-50, at the end of the summer of 1995. That first version of the piece was much longer, at more than 6 minutes, and it eventually appeared as the first song on the 1996 Something Yet Lingers cassette by my first solo project, Surreality. The piece always stayed with me, and in 2009, I borrowed a portion of its melody in "Threshold, Part Five," from my GODHEADSCOPE album Threshold.
With both "Apokalypsis" and my recording life now 30 years old, I return to the beginning and give the piece new life, with gratitude and the benefit of experience and new tools.
