Sitting on the line
Between death and life,
I lean my head forward.
Sifting through the dirt,
Penetrating eyes
Find the loosest soil.
There’s some refuge
Waiting for me.
Choosing planks to bind
For my grave in mind
From the bridge I’m burning.
This box marks the hole
Between you and me:
An obstructed chasm.
There’s a void here
Within my dust.
There’s a light here;
There’s a light languishing.
The atoms play in the morning fulgor.
The fulcrum of my eyes can’t help but turn.
I’ve sat upon this invisible cord,
Searching for the tiny unborn feeders
Of my often wished-for carrion.
But I can behold the worms of the air:
The gravity defying vermin stars
On my glowing horizon.
