Eyg by Björg Brjánsdóttir
Eyg was composed based on loose associations that come to mind when you think of flutes playing together. Beautiful chaos, hymns, and chorals. The flute is often said to be closer to the voice than other instruments and that idea was a strong inspiration for the piece.
Björg Brjánsdóttir graduated from the Norwegian Academy of Music in 2017 and pursued further flute studies at the Music University in Hanover, Munich and Copenhagen. She was nominated as performer of the Year at the 2022 Icelandic Music Awards and has performed as a soloist with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, Elja Chamber Orchestra, the Icelandic Youth Orchestra, Svanurinn Wind Band and the Icelandic Flute Choir. Björg plays in the new music group Caput and Elja Chamber Orchestra and performs regularly with various orchestras in Germany, Norway, and Iceland. Her first solo album, GROWL POWER, was released in January 2024 featuring works by Bára Gísladóttir. She has worked closely with many composers and her second album, expected to be released in late 2024, will feature new solo pieces for flute by six different composers.
