Lyrics
A land in debris
Fates woven in blood
Trapped in Burg Windeck
The dean won’t leave for now
At the foot of the burg‘s hill
Roams the pale woman alone
Only her fowl and herbs around
Solitude – a quiet home
Windeck - beware thee
Strassbourg - claims the dean
Windeck – beware thee
Strassbourg – plans the siege
„Oh you dear childen!
What brought you orphants here?
Come, come and eat
Just rest right there!“
Shy they complied and both ate in tears
The dean – their uncle
His health is what they feared
Refrain
„Don’t worry you fragile souls!
We’ll buy off his freedom soon
Just gift this to Master Reinhart
This hen will pave your path!
The soldiers of Strassbourg charging
They’ll stomp his wall into dust!
If he places this hen at the old cross
She’ll dig a moat at dusk“
Hesitant yet hopeful
The orphants took the fowl
And on their way they went to free
Their uncle from the burg
On their way up the hill
Reinhart took the siblings in
And placed the hen as he was told
At the cross to build the moat
Deep at night the hordes arrived
Armed soldiers in thirst for blood
Almost storming Burg Windeck
But suddenly they had to stop
A moat circling the well
Too deep to march right through
Enraged by the unexpected hurdle
An end to their bold pursuit
The old lady grinning and laughing
„See I promised thee“
The orphants though with their uncle
Escaped in silence by the hordes unseen
