Lyrics

Bdira - Little Moon - used to sing at celebrations and weddings. Jasser Haj Youssef remembers the processions on the family farm, where she would lead the singing and dancing, in the women's circle only, extended to include children. Bdira belonged to a women's religious brotherhood that practises Madaniya, a traditional dialect song.

Hassine Ben Rachid Bel Haj Youssef has recorded and fixed the repertoire of the madaniya, a Sufi women's brotherhood from Tunisia. He has published a book by the Centre des Musiques Arabes et Méditerranéennes.
