Castillo released his debut album Brazilian Season, followed by Trip to Brazil (2011), which won the 2012 Western Canadian Music Award for World Music Recording of the Year. His third album, Zabelê(2014), was also nominated for a WCMA. In 2015, his composition Forró no Canadá was a finalist at the Festival de Viña del Mar in Chile, performed for 20,000 people and broadcast internationally.
